The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) has developed a
fact sheet on warming infant formula, with assistance from the
Ministries of Health and Consumer Affairs. The fact sheet is
designed to address questions about safe heating practices.
Powdered infant formula is not a sterile product, therefore, care
needs to be taken when preparing, warming or storing infant
formula.
Key points to note aree:
- it is ideal to use freshly made infant formula straight away
and to discard any remaining formula
- made up infant formula can be stored at room temperature for up
to two hours or in a refrigerator for four hours
- do not leave prepared infant formula in a commercial warming
device for prolonged periods of time
- always check the temperature of the infant formula before
feeding your baby
- never re-heat warmed or partly consumed infant formula .
